WHO IS RONALD MAURICE?
Ronald Maurice is a St. Louis–born composer, conductor, pianist,horn soloist, and educator whose work bridges opera, orchestral music, film, and music education. A versatile and internationally active artist, he has performed as a solo hornist in distinguished venues including Schönbrunn Palace with the Vienna Horn Society, and has built a multifaceted career spanning St. Louis, Vienna, and Italy as a conductor and music director across orchestral, operatic, and musical theater traditions.
Equally at home as a creator and collaborator, Ronald’s compositional work reflects a deep commitment to storytelling, interdisciplinarity, and contemporary expression. From 2021–2023, he served as Music Director for The American Opera Project’s Composers & the Voice training program, mentoring emerging composers and singers in the development of new operatic works. As a freelance composer, his music has been featured in Green United Music’s film catalog in Paris, and he has released multiple recordings, including an EP. His work has also appeared in diverse artistic contexts, including André Hueston Mack’s national book tour and choreographic collaborations with Gaby Baars for Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal. In March 2024, his opera Unbroken, with librettist J. Mae, premiered as part of Opera Theatre of St. Louis’ New Works Collective.
A passionate educator and arts leader, Ronald has taught conducting at NYU Steinhardt and has designed, built, and led music programs at both the K–12 and university levels. He currently serves as Director of Music at Xavier High School, where he oversees a comprehensive and forward-thinking music department encompassing performance, music history, and music production. Under his leadership, students consistently achieve success in competitive ensembles and professional training programs, guided by a philosophy that emphasizes artistic excellence, creativity, and cultural relevance.
Through his work as a composer, conductor, and educator, Ronald Maurice continues to shape the future of classical and contemporary music, advocating for innovation, access, and meaningful artistic engagement.

Opera Theatre of Saint Louis (OTSL) has announced its slate of world premieres for the 2024 New Works Collective. Now in its second year, the New Works Collective is a disruptor in the American opera industry by soliciting nation-wide applications from aspiring creatives and submitting all entries to a community panel for adjudication. A group of ten St. Louis citizens independently selected the six artists who will create new operas in 2024.
